When the sheriff of a small West Texas town overrun with crime vows to keep his streets clean for one year, he is cast onto the national stage and sets into motion a series of events that threatens to swallow him and everyone he knows.

Sheriff Junior Miles pines for a life of significance. Saddled with a thin-skinned boy deputy and a clown wife, his days drift by purposelessly. Mostly filled with regrets and overcooked coffee. Mostly thinking about his insignificance. An insignificance magnified by the volume of crime in his small town. Crime he can’t seem to do anything about. Cynetech, Texas, a town purchased and renamed by a petroleum company that closed its doors years before, has been gutted by too many oil booms and busts. The most recent bust created a void so wide and deep that nobody can escape. Hopelessness has infected all. And most would rather steal and kill than face another tomorrow.

After tragedy strikes Junior, his search for importance takes a different road when he discovers a way to use his job as a catapult to something grander. After making a bold vow to keep Cynetech crime-free for one year, Junior quickly finds himself in a world of trouble as he attempts to keep that promise. Each new attempt creates even more chaos and bigger problems.

When Junior becomes a key figure in a controversial candidate’s political campaign, it’s up to his young deputy to bring the madness to an end.
